Research Week for Development 2014

The 4th edition of the Research Week for Development, organized by the French Embassy, the Ministry of Sciences and Technology and the French Institute in Laos, was held from 13 to 15 October 2014 in the French Institute in Vientiane.

Bringing together French, Lao and international researchers, research institutes and students, the 2014 Research Week for Development provided information and crossed thoughts on the development of Laos, through conferences focused on three sectors : economy, agriculture and health. The week also aimed to promote research careers with postgraduate Lao students.

Officially opened by Mr. Houmphanh Inthalath, Deputy Minister of Sciences and Technology, and Mr. Yves Carmona, Ambassador of France, these three days enabled the 27 different speakers (scientists, experts and representatives of authorities public) to develop a cross-analysis of the economic, agricultural and health challenges in Laos and within the region.

The Research Week for Development met a great success, bringing together nearly 500 people. The week managed to deepen and discuss diverse topics such as rural productivity, economic and social transition in Laos or the link between health and economic development. The speakers’ presentations were completed by regular discussion with the audience.

Exhibitions, film screenings and a video contest for pupils and students were also organized on as side events of the conferences.
